I made it through Covid, through teaching virtually from home, through the deaths of my mother and stepfather from Covid complications, through post-covid teaching and being diagnosed with hearing loss.
…and in June of 2024, I taught English for the last time. I retired early, which means a bit of a financial squeeze but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I am looking forward to a full recovery from this noble, terrible profession. I want to research how many educators we lost to the Covid debacle. Did we lose more than other professions? I don’t know, yet.
Come with me on my new journey, join me as I navigate life without class blocks, bells, unsanitary and unhealthy working conditions, and the Kool Aid we drank on a regular basis to survive.
And along the way enjoy my anecdotes about retired life. Honestly, I don’t know how I ever had time to work!
